So I get this book from the library, by Bobbi Conner. I may not agree with the idea of forceably limiting screen time, but the book is a great resource. I picked it up to get some game ideas for the Tiger Cubs. In addition, we're spring cleaning, and part of that is restocking all of our strewing items at one time.
My favorite part of the book is Index B "The well-stocked toy cupboards", a section for toddlers, one for preschools and best of all, one for grade-schoolers. I like to think I do a good idea, but there were some great hints in there. Like balloons. Older kids should always have a supply of uninflated balloons at hand.

I love balloons, but Pickle, our dog, is horribly afraid of them. I can always tell when there is one in the house as he is under the table nearest to me. I imagine he popped one at some point, and they do pop, so I can't really comfort him nor make him immune to his response. The kids are keeping them upstairs to humor him. He can still tell, but, y'know, I think he just may have to cope.
